'Colonisation' by Celecte Cooke

Project Summary

This project explored the relationships between art and heritage and its role in planning for the future of Wollongong. It focused on how a city can preserve and express a unique sense of place through art and cultural activity in the public realm.
Milestones Exhibition: work by 30 artists reflecting on the Illawarra.
Museum Project: research and exhibition exploring an object from a local museum
A Community Planning Forum: four development case studies: Wollongong’s Cultural Precinct, the Foreshore, a park and water conservation project and a new town development in West Dapto addressed through speakers and workshops
UOW History Conference Memory Heritage and Place: Wollongong’s Changing History. A conversation with the community about Wollongong’s past, about change and the meaning of change. 27 speakers addressed four themes:
1.Re-Branding and Image, 2. Agents of Change, 3. Preserving/Conserving: Writing Wollongong’s Past 4. Learning From the Past, Looking to the Future
