Campbelltown Arts Centre - Cultural Program

Campbelltown Arts Centre

Project Summary

Campbelltown Arts Centre provides South-west Sydney with a flagship cultural venue that engages and inspires communities through the production and development of cultural programming.

Completion of the new $10m Arts Centre in 2005 positions Campbelltown as a leader in arts and cultural development in NSW. This cultural infrastructure project included the development of a 180 seat performance studio, rehearsal studio, green room, additional workshop spaces, library, expanded gallery spaces, café, enhanced collection facilities, residency studio, retail outlet and an external amphitheatre with capacity for 2000 people.

From its launch, the Campbelltown Arts Centre has focused on producing and delivering innovative high quality contemporary cultural programs for the growing communities of greater South-west Sydney. The Centre’s multi-disciplinary program brings together visual arts, performance, music, dance, film and new media practice to provide opportunities for communities to engage with contemporary ideas and issues.

"Cities must trade in cultural cringe for a growing sense of confidence in our distinctiveness. They must try to be somewhere, not anywhere in the extended global sprawl of electronic suburbia. Cities must wilfully believe that the unique combination of events that may fuse here is just as compelling as those that may fuse somewhere else. Cities need to involve their people in making and remaking their own mythology, and create something that is truly unique." Marcus Westbury
