Bland But Not Boring...

"Women of the West" Tapestry donated to the community and displayed at Bland Shire Council by the Bland Spinners and Weavers Group Incorporation

Project Summary

With the unfortunate Local Government Area name of Bland Shire; members of the community work in partnership with Council to make living in our rural towns, including West Wyalong a dynamic place.

In 2003, Bland Shire Cultural Advisory Committee embarked on developing their first Community Cultural Plan. From the outcome of this planning process, the local opportunities capitalised upon are endless and in 2007 included West Wyalong Christmas Carnival, Australia Day celebrations, Barmedman Tractor Pull, Prom's On Tour concerts, Cinema screening in the Shire Chambers, compilation of an artists register, administration of the Cultural Development Grants Program, International Day of People with a disABILITY, Community radio, West Wyalong Winter School of Strings and Wind and many more.

Bland Shire Council invites you all to visit or come live in our Shire...

"Cities must trade in cultural cringe for a growing sense of confidence in our distinctiveness. They must try to be somewhere, not anywhere in the extended global sprawl of electronic suburbia. Cities must wilfully believe that the unique combination of events that may fuse here is just as compelling as those that may fuse somewhere else. Cities need to involve their people in making and remaking their own mythology, and create something that is truly unique." Marcus Westbury
