For Matthew & Others - Journeys with Schizophrenia
Project Summary
For Matthew & Others: Journeys with Schizophrenia was an extraordinary project that examined the multiple impacts of schizophrenia through the art and personal stories of those who live with or have been touched by the illness. This multi-venue project comprised a range of cultural and education programs bringing together artists and artworks from across the visual, performing, literary and community arts. Projects included: exhibitions, concerts, recitals, film screenings, poetry readings and an art market. Importantly, the project raised public awareness for one of the most stigmatised illnesses in contemporary society. Over 40,000 people actively engaged with programs when showcased at Campbelltown Arts Centre, Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre and Ivan Dougherty Gallery, University of NSW. (The exhibition toured to Bundoora Homestead Art Centre, Melbourne). The project bought together partners including: ArtsNSW, SANE Australia, the NSW Departments of Health and Housing and the Q Theatre Company.
